Danganronpa Creator Tells Fans Worried About a Delay to 'Just Play GTA 6' While They Wait

Spike Chunsoft's Anime Expo 2026 panel provided fans with both positive and negative updates regarding highly anticipated projects, including the Danganronpa 2×2 remake and the Steins;Gate Re:Boot. On the negative side, the developers announced a postponement of the Danganronpa 2×2 release from 2026 to early 2027. However, the chief architect of the Danganronpa series, Kazutaka Kodaka, had a few kind words for the disappointed fans.

Just Play GTA 6

In particular, Kodaka suggested that those who were planning to purchase the game upon its initial release could spend the time until the Danganronpa 2×2 launch by playing Grand Theft Auto VI. Additionally, he recommended that players could engage with The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy and Shuten Order.

It's a hilarious response, given how much gaming culture revolves around GTA's dominance and its developers' ability to absorb hundreds of millions of dollars every year. With the GTA 6 release date being 137 days away, Kodaka's advice might help some impatient Danganronpa fans get through the waiting period.

New Content in Danganronpa 2×2

As for Danganronpa 2×2 itself, Spike Chunsoft announced that it would feature a brand new scenario, The Slayhem Scenario, with a script written by Kodaka. It's described as a brand new story that is 20 percent longer than the original game and set to become the main attraction of the title. It can be played from the beginning of the game, but the developers recommend experiencing the original tale first. Additionally, the team stated that they would reimagine the game's world map and make numerous other adjustments.

Steins;Gate Re:Boot Gets Attention Too

Meanwhile, the panel discussed the upcoming Steins;Gate Re:Boot, which would provide remixed artwork, character portraits brought to life with animation, and a brand new scenario ported from an existing drama CD. Spike Chunsoft announced that their remake was created without the aid of artificial intelligence, a statement that earned a well-deserved round of applause from the audience.

So, in conclusion, it seems that Danganronpa fans will have to wait a little longer for the much-anticipated release. Thankfully, Kazutaka Kodaka has recommended spending the extra time playing GTA VI.
